In celebration of the event, the Peter Deilmann Shipping Company dispatched its ocean liner, the MS "Deutschland" to depart the docks of the Steubenhoeft en route for New York in a event retracing the historical route for the first time in nearly thirty years. The trip was accentuated by on-board lectures and thematic excursions dealing with the Cuxhaven-Ellis Island route.

he Hapag-Terminal of Cuxhaven, likewise, served as an interesting travel destination and conference center for numerous groups conducting studies on north German emigration.
