History: 1892 - 1900
The following years are marked by a bustling travel and business. The city profits from the modernization of the harbor: electric lights burn for the first time in Cuxhaven in 1892.
The New Harbor commences operations on January 14th with dispatch of Hapag's first express steamship, the "Fuerst Bismarck". The quay facilities, which measure 120 meters in length soon prove to be too small. The "Fuerst Bismarck", itself, measures 154 meters long.
Hamburg's City Parliament approves the transfer of the complete steamboat fleet of the Hamburg-America-Line to Cuxhaven. The "Deutschland" wins the famous Blue Ribbon for setting the record in the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing to New York. She holds this title for six straight years.
